Tipperary Farm Visit
Saturday 8th August
The Belted Galloway Club Farm Visit was held on the farm of Michael Barron, Derryisland, Lorrha, Co.Tipperary where quite a large number of breeders attended to see Michael's herd .
Michael farms approximately 50 Pedigree Belted Galloways and followers on 200 acres organically on the banks of the River Shannon.
The day began with Michael giving us a overview of how he came to farm Belties at Derryisland and what his plans were for the future which included increasing his herd further and selling his beef direct to local restaurants. Along the route around the farm Michael also showed us the old castle ruins and gave us the interesting history and tales about the farm.
The day finished with a wonderful BBQ of Belted Galloway beef supplied by Brian Moorhead of "Briglands Belted Galloway Beef". Club Chairman Des Dunne addressed the breeders at the end of the BBQ and informed them of all the most recent developments and encouraged breeders to continue their support in the club and with their events.
A wonderful day was had by all at the farm walk and the club would like to thank Michael Barron and his family for hosting this visit. It was great to view Michael's wonderful herd and to meet up with fellow breeders.
