Carlisle Sale Report

TOP OF 3400GNS AT CARLISLE BELTED GALLOWAY SALE

Topping the Belted Galloway spring show & sale at Carlisle was the overall Champion Woodhall Johnny a 2 year old bull from first time exhibitors G R Bell from Hexham, Northumberland.  Johnny is sired by Ballyharvey Rob and out of offthewall Cymene.  He was knocked down at 3400gns to J & YR Hopkins from Highbridge, Somerset.

Two further bulls hit the 2000gns mark, the first of these was the first bull in the ring 4 year old Beanley Freddie from exhibitors A & J Thomson .  Freddie was bred by Hedgeley Farms and was reluctantly being sold as he was coming back on his own stock.  The successful bidder was A Wainwright & Son from Sproxton, York for their Sproxton Herd.

The second bull to hit the 2000gns mark was Hugh and Nancy Sloan’s Burnfoot Kyla, sired by Park Horatio and out of Muil Ruby, this bull won 2nd prize in the pre-sale show and was purchased by the Hardknott herd of NA & J Temple from Broughton in Furness.

In the unled female section NA Thompson’s heifer Maybeck Grace sold with her January born heifer calf at foot Maybeck India for the top price of 1380gns.

Unfortunately, in the led female section they met a difficult trade and none of the females found new homes.
