Castle Douglas Sale 2020
Belted Galloways in strong demand
A good entry of cattle was forward at the Belted Galloway Annual sale at Castle Douglas with bids coming in online, by telephone and from ringside. With 15 lots making 3000gns or above and all averages up on the previous year, it all bodes well for the future of the Breed.
The first animal in the ring was the top priced female. Huntfield Uppy (above), a first calved heifer by Barwise Jigsaw, selling with her 2 month old heifer calf at foot. Mother and daughter sold for 6000gns to D & K Keiley for their Croft herd based in Dalbeattie. Next highest price in the females was 4000gns which was met twice, firstly for a senior heifer Briglands Tequilla from B Moorhead. Tequilla is sired by Woodbine Firecracker and she sold to P Atkinson for his Lancashire based Sweetwell herd. Next was Whitstonehill Gysell from the Ward family, a junior heifer sired by Shelsleys Dylan and sold across the water to F & L McNally for their Draperstown based Tullybrick herd. Selling for 3500gns was Lomond Flutter Shy, a senior heifer from D & V Maxwell. She sold in-calf to Lomond 23 Alpha and her new home is Evistones Farm, Rochester. At 3200gns was a heifer in-calf to BGCS Pedro from the Marshall family. Larghill Virginia was also purchased by Evistones Farm, Rochester. Two other females sold for 3000gns, the first Whitstonehill Gyp from Messrs Ward selling to the Burnfoot Herd of H&N Sloan. Next at 3000gns was Glen Imogen from IRS Bond who sold to D MacGregor from Glasgow.
In the Males the top price was 8000gns for Clifton Ace. Having left the ring unsold, a deal was done back at the pens. Ace is sired by the renowned Clifton Hercules and was out of Broadmeadows Amy, selling to Evistones Farm, Rochester.
Second best price was 6500gns for the 18 month old bull Lomond Craigellachie from D & V Maxwell. Craigellachie is sired by the 12,000gn bull Speddoch Rocky and out of Laggish Kelly and sold to E Waldie fom Cupar in Fife for his Callange Herd.
Next highest price was 4200gns for a Red & White bull from D & K Keiley. Croft Red Admiral, who is sired by Clifton Lochinvar, sold to the Poplar herd of Miss E Wilkinson at Bewcastle.
Two bulls sold for 3800gns, the first being Waterloo Sexton. A Whitepool McCoy son from B Moorhead who sold to the Worcester based Shelsleys herd of D & D Powell. Next at that price was Machermore Bonnie Lad from G Milroy. Bonnie Lad is by the renowned sire Clifton Hercules and he sold to Glenapp Farms from Ayrshire.
