Ayr Show Results

17th May 2017

Judge: Mrs C Fletcher, Barwise Hall, Appleby-In-Westmorland, Cumbria.

Ayr Show, now a one day event, was held on the13th May 2017. It was well attended despite the damp weather. The Belties and Herefords were very ably judged by Mrs C Fletcher, Barwise Hall, Cumbria. The Champion Beltie went to Huntfield Sage, a first time out Senior in calf heifer, bred by Zan and Joe Kirk from the Huntfield Herd, Lowkirkbride, Auldgirth, Dumfries. She was a tremendous character heifer and showed real Belted Galloway type. She was born in October 2014 and is by the homebred bull Huntfield Optimist out of Huntfield Panoply. Reserve Champion went to Tobergill Stornoway, a senior in calf heifer born in March 2015. She is by the AI bull Karandrea Ronaldo and out of Tobergill Poppy. There were 4 junior heifers forward and the class was won by Huntfield Tamara sired by the AI bull Southfield Major Ronaldo. The two Tobergill junior heifers Tara and Tanya were 2nd and 3rd and are both sired by Shelsleys Dallas.

Zan Kirk was helped by Alastair Marshall who very competently led Sage not just in the young handler class but also in the senior heifer and Championship class. Abbie Montgomerie and Alastair both handled their show heifers well in the Young Handler class. Abbie took first prize handling Tara. A good leading adjustment was made as Abbie was leading a Dairy calf just a few minutes before.
