Royal Norfolk

26-27th June 2019

Well done to all the runners and riders in the Beltie Classes at this year's Royal Norfolk Show – it was great fun, lovely folks and animals and great to see everyone mucking in and helping each other out. A big welcome to Jeremy and Rachel from Two Mills herd in Suffolk and Ben and Becky from Blackthorn herd in Lincolnshire (Thanks to Ben and Becky for supplying teas and coffees for everyone too!).

We had a bumper entry of 21 animals with 19 bought forward for our judge from Scotland Mr Robert Graham to ponder over. I think we all agreed a very thorough and fair job he did on the day too! There was an added bit of excitement to proceedings when HRH The Countess of Wessex came into the Beltie ring during judging no doubt giving Mr Graham the opportunity to extol the virtues of our favourite breed.

Just to put the numbers into perspective this is only our third year of Beltie classes at the Royal Norfolk – we have come such a long way from a very wet day in June 2017 when we didn’t quite make the Show’s minimum entry numbers but they committed to keep our classes for another year. I apologise for chasing/hassling everyone to enter each year but hope you agree it is worth it to now have a proper competition – and if anyone out there is reading this and thinking they would like to have a go please do – the more the merrier, we are a friendly bunch and will all help you out if we can – the Show organisers tell me the barn we are in is ours to fill with Belties – so let’s do it!!

Congratulations to Will Mack for being our 2019 Best of Breed Winner of the Christine Osborne Challenge Cup with his fine Bull Barwise Barcode.

Special mention to Henry Scholefield of Holkham Farming for taking a Belted Galloway in the young handlers class – another first for the breed at the Royal Norfolk Show.
