Grading Up

An appendix scheme is in operation, whereby it is possible to grade up certain animals over a period of three generations.

Only females are eligible for appendix registration.

Males are only eligible for herd book registration from fully registered pedigreed Belted Galloway parents.

APPENDIX AA

A female calf from one registered black, dun or red pedigreed Belted Galloway parent, the other being a registered pedigreed Galloway, black, dun or red, will become an “AA” (provided she is of correct Belted Galloway type, has a complete belt and no white markings above the dew claw.)

A Female calf born to registered pedigreed Belted Galloway parents which has white markings below the dew claw will become an “AA”.

APPENDIX A

A female calf from an “AA” registered Belted Galloway female sired by a registered pedigreed Belted Galloway bull will become an “A” (provided she is of correct Belted Galloway type with a complete belt and no white feet).

APPENDIX B

A female calf from an “A” registered Belted Galloway female sired by a registered pedigreed Belted Galloway bull will become a “B” (provided she is of correct Belted Galloway type with a complete belt and no white feet).

A female from a “B” registered Belted Galloway female sired by a registered pedigreed Belted Galloway bull will become fully pedigreed (provided she is of correct Belted Galloway type with a complete belt and no white feet).

Mismarked calves e.g. those with incomplete belts, out of fully pedigreed Belted Galloway parents are not eligible from the appendix scheme. Animals must have full belts to be accepted into the scheme.

Colour coded Pedigree Certificates will be used in the Appendix Scheme.

AA = Red. A = Amber. B = Green.
