Herd Book Registration
(To check that your animal meets the required standard go to 'Grading Up')
Herd Book Registration Forms are available from the Society or by downloading here
Calves must be registered by their breeder (the owner of the mother cow when the calf was born), and have the breeder’s Herd prefix. The onus is on the breeder when selling a heifer calf along with its mother, to register that calf before sale.
The calf’s official Ministry ear tag number should be put on the Herd Book entry form. Other details required are its date of birth, names of sire and dam and their herd book numbers, colour and the name and address of the breeder. A sketch of the belt is required, for females, and smaller whiter markings on the feet must be shown. Females with incomplete belts are ineligible for registration, even in the Appendix.
FEMALES
FEES (all fees subject to V.A.T. 20%):-
£20 under 12 months old. £40 over 12 months old. An invoice for the fee will be enclosed with the pedigree certificate.
MALES
FEES (all fees subject to V.A.T. @ 20%):-
£50 Registration, Hair Sampling £25 and Inspection £50 = £125
Transfer of ownership costs £5 each, payable by the purchaser. Please do not write on the certificate. Send it to the secretary, and the date of transfer and new owner will be registered on a re-issued certificate, along with an invoice for the fee. Calves born to a transferred female cannot be registered unless the transfer has been recorded.
All males intended to be kept for breeding need to:-
- be inspected by a member of the Society’s inspection panel,
- have a DNA Certificate of Analysis.
Ideally, this should be done when the animal is between 12 and 24 months old. Bulls can only be entered from full pedigree parents, have a full belt and NO white anywhere else on the body.
The inspections are organised via the secretary who also holds the hair sampling kits for the DNA analysis.
