Castle Douglas sale 21st October 2011
The biggest event in the Beltie calendar is set to take place at Wallets Marts, Castle Douglas on Friday 21st October. A particularly good entry has been received, with cattle coming from all parts of the country - Wiltshire to the Western Isles and Ireland to County Durham. 57 pedigree Belted Galloway females will be on offer, together with 21 Belted bulls. These will be followed by 14 registered White Galloway females and 1 White Galloway bull. This year also sees the dispersal sale of Paul Renison's Braestead herd of Belted Galloways from high up in the Cumbria fells near Patterdale. To complete the sale a good selection of appendix registered female Belties and non-pedigree commercial stock will be on offer.
The proceedings will get off to a good start with the show of registered cattle at 9.30 a.m. under the scrutiny of judge Helen Hamilton of the famous Lullenden herd. The sale will take place following the show at around 12.00 noon.

Worcester Sale
Saturday 28th May 2011 at McCartneys, Nunnery way, Worcester
The Society's spring show and sale saw a larger entry than the previous year, and a large gathering of enthusiastic buyers present to bid for some very good cattle. Well known breeder of Boreland fame, George Sproat, was on hand to judge the pre-sale show, and chose for his female champion Jane Smith's Rainbow Radar daughter Whitepool Nadine. Male champion was Messrs. Booth & Bell's 20 month old bull Crackley Marksman, which then went on to win the overall champion's rosette, with Whitepool Nadine a creditable reserve champion.
Cows and heifers in calf or with calves at foot were first through the ring, and some keen bidding saw four out of sixteen in the class break the four figure barrier, most notably Messrs. Morland's four year old cow Lady Lane Gardenia with her heifer calf sired by Crackley Jackson (which also sired the show champion). This Arnside Berty daughter went to Messrs. Beasley of Halesowen for 1,450 guineas.
Served heifers were sold next with mixed results with the top price in that category going to Mr. R. Warner for the Park Phoenix daughter Windrush Lottie, which went to Mrs. D. Powell for 800 guineas.
Unserved heifers enjoyed a good trade, with the female and overall reserve champion from Jane Smith topping the class at a rewarding 1,900 guineas. Also enjoying a good trade was Mr. R. Helliwell, whose two Park Don Juan daughters made 1,280 and 1,220 guineas.
Bulls were rather thin on the ground on the day, with several not forward, however the show champion earned his rightful place at the top of the sale, going to Mr. S. Wright of Long Stanton for 2,300 guineas.
