Derbyshire Peak District Two Herd Open Day

SATURDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER

The Adams family, Robert, Jennifer, Joanna, Richard, Nicola and Andrew would like to invite you to come and see the Bigginvale herd-established in 1991. We have 32 breeding cows, with present calves at foot by Dunnay Tavish. We keep all youngstock to either finish or use as replacements with some heifers sold each year. Our herd is split spring and backend calving and run at 1100ft on limestone ground on the banks of the river dove.

ROUGH ITINERY

Arrive from 10am onwards in Alstonefield Village, Derbyshire DE6 2FY

Due to access to the farm cars will be parked in the village, for a tractor/trailer tour around the farm, includes an optional 3 to 4 min walk on flat ground to see the back end calvers on the bankside by the river dove, the tour ends at the farm to see the spring calving portion of the herd and a bbq for lunch.

Once everyone is finished it will be back down to the village to convoy the 50min drive through the derbyshire countryside to the edale herd.


Where Robert Helliwell and his family welcome you to see their 20 cow herd, all black and white, established in 2002 with heifers from the Gilmonby herd and Huntfield Amnesty as a stock bull. The aim is for spring calving, current stock bull Raisedale Rodger who came in this year. Calves at foot are by Whitlaw Ronaldo. Aim for quality stock on high forage diet, reared in the hills of the peak district. Selling heifers, occasionally young stock bull and store cattle.

WE OPTED FOR SATURDAY IN CASE ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO STAY THE NIGHT IN THE BEAUTIFUL PEAK DISTRICT AND SPEND SUNDAY AT ONE OF THE MANY TOURIST SPOTS AROUND OR MAYBE SEE SOME OF THE OTHER HERDS IN THE AREA.
