2018 Summer Herd Visit

We are very pleased to announce that our 2018 summer herd visit will be on Saturday 14th July to the Shelsleys herd of Dave and Deb Powell at Pard House Farm, Pard House Lane, Stanford Bridge, Worcestershire, WR6 6RZ.

Deb and Dave are well known advocates of the Belted Galloway breed and farm on a commercial basis running in excess of 200 pedigree Beltie cows on the home farm in the scenic Teme valley, and another holding near Tewkesbury, Glos. In addition to Belted Galloways they have a herd of rare Belted Welsh Black cattle that they are striving to expand from a very limited gene pool, and a flock of Jacob sheep. There will be in excess of 550 head of cattle for visitors to admire in July.

Current Beltie stock bulls include: Crankan Augustus, Dartmoor Canlyn, Dartmoor Hector, Southfield Skydiver, Shelsleys Darwin, Shelsleys Finn and Crackley Harry. The Powell’s also sell home-bred bulls with the aim of producing animals with alternative genetics that will appeal to other Beltie breeders.

Plans are in the early stages but the day will begin mid-morning at Pard House Farm. A light lunch will be followed by trailer tours to view the various groups. There will be a barbecue/ spit roast in the evening on the banks of the River Teme, and visitors are welcome to camp/caravan on the farm.

The event is open to all members of the Belted Galloway Cattle Society for UK and Eire, as well as friends and prospective breeders. We may ask for a small contribution towards costs (excluding paid-up members of the Southern Breeders’ Group).

Further details will be posted in due course – but those wishing to attend are asked to confirm numbers prior to 16th June - Jeremy Loxton (07775 943732 meadowhill@jeremyloxton.com)

Southern Breeders’ Group membership is £10 per annum, per herd – payable by cheque to: Belted Galloway Southern Breeders’ Group, c/o Mrs Judith Galloway, Marston, Chawleigh, Chulmleigh, Devon EX18 7EH
