2015 Young Stock Person Competitions

During the summer of 2015 specific Beltie young handler classes were held once again at Ayr County, Straiton, and Stranraer Shows. We have also continued giving rosettes to the best Beltie young handler entering in general beef young handler classes at Dumfries, Stewartry and Wigtown Shows.

It is the handler’s competence that is judged not the animal shown. There is a point system in place for the summer show season and the young exhibitor gaining the most points over the season will receive a trophy to keep for a year.

Exhibitors this year included Molly Keiley, Hamish and Rory Bell. Everyone did well. Many congratulations to Mollie Keiley she accumulated the most points and won the Belted Galloway Young Handler Trophy for 2015.

The society is keen to encourage youngsters and help teach them about showing and handling cattle. A few adult members are happy to help with this on their farms. If this is of interest to anyone please be in touch with the society and we shall try and arrange something suitable.

Please encourage your children, grandchildren, friend’s children etc to participate. The cattle shown don’t need to be their own, sometimes another exhibitor has a quiet animal that they are willing to lend for a class, please ask for more info. Remember cattle shows are a good shop front for our breed and youngsters are the future.

Please contact the society if you can persuade any of your local shows with Beltie classes to include Young Handler classes and would like Rosettes sent or any help.
