World Galloway Conference

The World Galloway Conference brings together breeders all over the world who share an interest in the various breeds of Galloway Cattle. Every other year a Conference is held which is attended by representatives from Galloway breed societies of many nationalities.

As well as a conference which brings everyone up to date with developments all around the world a series of vists is organised which provides a fascinating insight into livestock husbandry methods in different countries.

In 2012 the Conference was hosted in Ontario, Canada and was attended by a strong contingent of Belted Galloway enthusiasts who certainly managed to make an impression (all good, of course)! Jane Landers (Cairnsmore) and Jennifer Taylor (Tobergill) were our official delegates and Jennifer's report appears below. Our other contacts with the World Galloway organisation are Liz Wilkinson (01387 770020) and Caroline McMillan (01290 700069).

In 2014 the World Conference will be hosted in the Bremen area of Northern Germany. The Germans are famously keen on Galloway cattle, and this should be an excellent opportunity to see how they do (and possibly drum up some business). A taster of the 2014 Conference appears below.

After the German event, which will be a hard act to follow, the baton is picked up in 2016 by our own Society, together with the Galloway Society and will be based around south west Scotland and north west England. Watch this space for more news.
