2011 Young Stock Person Competitions
During the summer of 2011 specific Beltie young handler classes were held once again at Ayr County, Straiton, and Stranraer Shows. Disappointingly after several letters to try for similar classes at other shows we have to continue just giving rosettes to the best Beltie young handler entering in general beef young handler classes. Rosettes will be given in general classes at Dumfries, Stewartry and Wigtown Shows. A point system is in place for the summer show season and the young exhibitor gaining the most points over the season will receive a trophy to keep for a year.
Exhibitors this year included Judith Cowie, Bobby Landers, Katie Landers, Ian McKnight and Claire Taylor. Everyone did well and once again Judith Cowie gained the most points and won the trophy, well done.
Next year we plan to change the classes so exhibitors can show from 8 up to 18 years old. Hopefully this will encourage more entries. However adult supervision may be necessary for the safety of younger exhibitors.
Please encourage your children, grandchildren, friend’s children etc to participate. The cattle shown don’t need to be their own, sometimes another exhibitor has a quiet animal that they are willing to lend for a class, please ask for more info. Remember cattle shows are a good shop front for our breed and youngsters are the future.
